Highland’s pedestrians and cyclists find the Erie-Lackawanna Trail; a multiuse, paved rail trail that runs diagonally through the town is a great asset. The Highland portion of the trail, known as the Crosstown Trail, is expected to eventually connect pedestrians to Chicago and Crown Point through a series of extensions.

Highland lies just south of the Borman Expressway and U.S. Route 41, known as Indianapolis Boulevard, which serves as a major north-south artery for Highland. Highland’s close proximity to Chicago and several other Interstate and U.S. highways are within a 20-mile radius.
